Mid Hudson Discovery Museum
The Mid Hudson Discovery Museum is a place where kids can learn and explore while enjoying themselves. It is located at 75 N Water St, Poughkeepsie, NY 12601. The museum, which was originally known as the Mid Hudson Children’s Museum, is now expanding its audience and positioning itself as a crucial link between formal and informal education. Jeffrey Sasson, the new executive director, hopes to create a new relationship with local school districts and make the museum an ideal destination for families.
The museum is open seven days a week during the summer season. The hours are 9:30am to 5pm Monday through Saturday, and 11am to 5pm on Sunday. The museum is generally more crowded on weekends and on rainy days, so it’s best to go during the week. The museum also hosts many free events throughout the year.
The museum’s free Family Nights are held on the third Saturday of every month and are designed to give families a chance to experience the museum without having to pay for admission. The museum’s board member, Krista Miller, has been a Poughkeepsie resident for 26 years. She is active in the local community and enjoys learning about the local history.
Families with young children can experience the museum’s educational programs and interactive exhibits, including the StarLab. The museum also offers birthday parties, Planetarium shows, and playgroup workshops. The museum is easy to reach by car or Metro-North. There is also a discount for Metro-North train riders.
The museum offers hands-on activities, including vertical measurement charts, discovery drawers filled with museum artifacts, and an interactive literacy corner. The museum is also dedicated to serving a diverse audience. It offers a wide variety of educational programs, including early literacy and nature education. Its renowned exhibits are designed to engage children’s minds and encourage creative play.
MHDM has been recognized for its efforts in the community, including its recent launch of the Poughkeepsie Waterfront Market. The market is a weekly farmers market that provides local produce and other locally grown food to the city. During the summer season, the market will run on Monday afternoons from 3:00pm to 6:30pm. Moreover, MHDM recently received a Leading Edge Award for Business Practice. Next Article.
